• downloads need a codex? none of these files play using windows media player
  • If you download the MP3 files, they should work. For the higher quality patent-free Ogg Vorbis you need to install http://xiph.org/dshow/

  • I didn't know that. It might explain why my Nokia phone doesn't support vorbis but I saw various portable music players that support it and some of them are the cheaper ones
  • I'm having trouble with Windows Movie Maker allowing some songs to be attached. How do I fix it? A tech support person spent 8 hours the other day trying and finally gave up. She told me the files were corrupted but I got the same result when downloading the same songs from another music site. Here is the error message I get; "The file might be corrupted or in a format Movie Maker does not recognize. This file cannot be saved or published until Greg_Reiter_-_Rattlesnake.mp3 is remved from the project. Error 0x87160129"

I found this at Microsoft's website; Video and music files that are protected with digital rights management (DRM) can't be used in Movie Maker. Remove protected files from the storyboard, and then continue editing.

Are these music files DRM and does this mean they are corrupted by the maker? If so that's kind of strange if they are listed here for people to download. It just seems to be this one artist whose music won't work as far as I can tell.
  • Just convert these files to another format, like WMA or WAV.
